Refund policy

We want your books to arrive in good condition and your digital purchases to work. If something goes wrong, contact support@ark.press with your order number and a short description of the problem.

This policy covers purchases made directly from Ark Press. Purchases through another retailer are handled under that retailer’s return policy.

Damaged, defective, or incorrect products

If your product arrives damaged or defective, or we send the wrong item, you may return it for a full refund. If you prefer, we can arrange a replacement when stock is available.

Ark Press covers necessary return shipping for these items. Your refund includes the amount paid for the affected product, applicable tax, and the original shipping charge attributable to it. If the whole order is affected, we refund the full original shipping charge. There is no restocking fee.

Please contact us promptly, preferably within 30 days of delivery. Photos may help us resolve the problem, but tell us if you cannot provide them. We may resolve a claim without requiring a return.

Returning a printed book because you changed your mind

You may request a return within 30 days after delivery. Books must be in their original, saleable condition, without added markings, stains, or damage.

You pay return postage. We refund the price paid for the returned book and applicable tax. Original shipping is not refunded except where required by law. There is no restocking fee.

Physical orders are fulfilled through our warehouse in Edmond, Oklahoma. Contact support@ark.press before mailing a return so we can provide the correct address and instructions.

Ebooks and audiobooks

Digital purchases are delivered through BookFunnel. Use the help option on your delivery page for downloading, reading, or listening assistance, or contact Ark Press directly.

We will refund an accidental digital purchase that has not been accessed and the extra copy in a verified duplicate purchase. Once content has been downloaded, streamed, or accessed, we generally do not offer change-of-mind refunds.

If we supplied the wrong content, or a technical problem prevents you from using your purchase and we cannot resolve it within a reasonable time, we will refund the affected purchase, including applicable tax.

Cancellations and refunds

Contact us promptly to cancel an order. We can normally cancel physical purchases before shipment processing begins. Unshipped preorders may be cancelled for a full refund of the item and associated shipping.

Eligible refunds go to the original payment method. We aim to issue them within 10 business days after receiving a return or confirming that no return is needed, and sooner where required by law. Your payment provider may take additional time to post the credit.

Nothing in this policy restricts mandatory consumer rights.

A disaffected ad man gets involved with a cutting-edge artist who uses terrorism as her medium of choice in this Fight Club-like allegorical thriller of our spectacle- and cataclysm-loving modern times.

Read MoreRead Less

When an artist restages real terror attacks as the next great pop-art product, a burned-out New York ad man is the only one close enough to figure out that the new culture of carnage may have a serious downside—everyone’s total annihilation!

Terror Is the New Black

Keith Vaughan is a washed-out New York ad man totally disenchanted with the industry he once loved. Then Keith discovers Sheena Red. Sheena is the art world’s newest star. She’s young, brilliant, and obsessed with terrorism as the ultimate spectacle. Her new movement is called “Horrorism,” and its pieces do not merely comment on atrocity—they recreate it by restaging actual terror attacks, but this time reduced to pure form.

Poison gas blooms through a studio audience as spectators reach for masks that may or may not save them. Sarin leaks into the subway. Buildings fall. As the bodies pile up, the critics swoon, and the media asks whether mass death can be the next great American art form.

As Horrorism escalates from obscene provocation to corpse-strewn spectacle, Sheena and her collaborators are circling a final work grand enough to make Horrorism immortal—and obscene enough to allegedly expose the civilization which made it possible. The only thing that might be standing in the way is a gifted young copywriter who is the one person close enough to understand the seduction and the sickness of what they are creating.

Savage, stylish, and morally radioactive, The Horrorist is Fight Club inside an ad agency, American Psycho in the age of viral spectacle, and J. G. Ballard’s Crash in a world where catastrophe has become content. Debut novelist and sometime ad man Leo Vladimirsky asks what happens when a society trained to consume spectacle finally gets the grand exhibition of terror and carnage it has so desperately longed for.

Reviews and Endorsements
“When you read Vladimirsky, it’s easy to find yourself nodding along until you shouldn’t. There’s always a piece of buckshot in the meat; a pinhole in the spacesuit; a bone shard in the flowerbed; a note of bitter almond hiding in the Scotch. To say more would be to prepare you. So have a seat, get comfortable, and enjoy . . . but watch your back.”
—Trevor Quachri, Editor in Chief, Analog Magazine
“Sharp, witty, and bold, Leo Vladimirsky's writing shows his deep love of language, care for humanity, and respect for speculative literature.”
—Justin C. Key, author of The Hospital at the End of the World
“Sardonic wit. Art. Pathos. Despair. Terrorism. Bullets. Advertising. And the best portrait of New York City since Jonathan Lethem’s Motherless Brooklyn. I’d kill to have written it.”
—Eileen Gunn, author of “Stable Strategies for Middle Management”
